Nehles Gets Nod

Jan. 25, 2006

LAS VEGAS - Former Rebel standout Henner Nehles has been named assistant coach of the UNLV women's tennis team, head coach Kevin Cory announced Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to welcome Henner as our new assistant coach," Cory said. "He proved himself as a top competitor in college tennis and now looks to become a top coach. He will help us expand our recruiting and remain one of the top programs in the conference and the West."

Nehles, a native of Duisburg, Germany, who is currently finishing work on his undergraduate degree in hotel administration, finished his three-year career as one of the most decorated players in program history.

Voted the 2005 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Senior of the Year, Nehles closed one win short of All-America status at the NCAA Singles Championship. Earning a career-high national ranking of 38th in 2005, he turned in a 29-9 singles mark while his 20-6 doubles record as a senior pushed him as high as 17th in the nation with partner Aviram Salomon.

Also a three-time All-MWC honoree, Nehles set a school record by being named conference player of the week a total of five times.
