LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Armani Rice picked up a pair of weekly honors on Monday, as she was named both the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week, and to Top Drawer Soccer's national Team of the Week. It's the first conference weekly honor, and the first national weekly honor for Rice in her two-year career at UNLV. She is also the fourth Rebel to earn conference honors this season, following Ashly O'Harrow (Sept. 5) Ciera Nero (Sept. 25), and Tanya Roberts (Oct. 2).
Rice, a junior forward from Parker, Colo., came up with late-game heroics twice last week to give the Rebels a pair of conference victories. In a game against New Mexico on Oct. 13, Rice scored nine minutes into the first overtime to give the Rebels a 1-0 win over the Lobos, a team that had allowed just nine goals all season.
She followed that performance with another late game-winner, this time against TCU on Oct. 15. With the score tied at 1-1, she sent in a shot from 20 yards out with less then two minutes remaining to give UNLV the 2-1 victory.
Rice currently leads UNLV in goals with five and points with 11, and she also has four game-winners this year, with three of them coming in one-goal victories.
The Rebels, 7-8-1 and 2-2 in MWC play, return to action on Friday night at Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo., at 6 pm (PST).
