LAS VEGAS - UNLV has two doubles teams still alive in the main draw after Thursday's play at the Wilson/ITA Region 7 Men's Tennis Championships being held at the Darling Memorial Tennis Center.
16th-seeded Brett Hunter and Elliot Wronski defeated Jeff Pfeifer and Alejandro deMocha of New Mexico State 8-3 while 14th-seeded Wes Burrows and David Campbell got by New Mexico's Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Nicolazzi 8-5. Both duos will play in Friday's Round of 16.
In singles, only one Rebel -- freshman Luca Barlocchi -- advanced past the Round of 32 with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 victory over 25th-seeded Fabio Mancarella of Weber State. Barlocchi, however, then fell in the Round of 16, 6-2, 6-2 to Clancy Shields of Boise State.
Six Rebels remain alive in the consolation draw of singles.
Members from 14 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday in both singles and doubles. No less than 17 ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over the last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in November's ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
