Box Score

SAN JOSE - San Jose State limited UNLV to just six shots and scored two second-half goals to earn a 3-0 shutout victory over the Rebels (0-13-2, 0-7) in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans (7-8-1, 4-4 MPSF) scored the eventual game-winner in the first half, when Colby Moore collected a pass from Ed Brand and scored on the near corner in the 18th minute. The score would remain at 1-0 at halftime, despite SJSU holding a 12-3 advantage on shots.

The advantage was almost the same in the second half, this time 11-3. The Spartans would score twice on those 11 shots, with the second goal of the night coming in the 53rd minute, on a shot by Hiroki Akiyama to the left side of the goal.

Julio Gonzalez posted the final score of the night, following a one-on-one breakaway on which he was able to avoid the Rebel defender to send a shot past Rebel goalkeeper Calvin Bailey.

Despite the three goals, Bailey had a strong night in goal, as he collected a total of 10 saves on the night. Richard Mann earned the shutout for SJSU after making one save in the game.

UNLV will continue its road trip, facing Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
