Rebels Take On Unique Autosports Wednesday

Oct. 31, 2006

LAS VEGAS - Unique Autosports, the automotive customizing shop that stars in the hit SPEED reality series, Unique Whips, will be playing its second annual celebrity softball game at Eller Media Stadium on Nov. 1 at 6:30 pm. Proceeds from the game will benefit The Teddy Fund of New York.

The game will be held on the campus of UNLV, as Will Castro, owner of Unique Autosports, will lead his band of celebrity players against the UNLV softball team. Among the celebrities is model and actress Vida Guerra and Major League Baseball players Shawn Chacon of the Pittsburgh Pirates; along with Gary Sheffield and Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees.

As with last year's event, cameras will be rolling to tape another episode of Unique Whips, which can be seen Wednesday nights on SPEED.

"Last year's event was so much fun that I had to do it again," said Castro, who won last year's event against West Coast Customs. "My customers and sponsors will be with me supporting a good cause and eating a little barbecue. This year Gary (Sheffield) and I will have our hands full coaching the team. The UNLV women will be tough, but I think we can pull it out again."

UNLV softball coach Lonni Alameda talked about the opportunity as well.

"We are excited to welcome Unique Autosports back to Las Vegas and to UNLV for a second year of competition at Eller Media Stadium," said Alameda. "Last year, Unique played the West Coast Customs team, but this year they will be facing us, the UNLV women's softball team. This is a great opportunity for everyone involved, including the Las Vegas community. The softball program is happy to be a part of this, especially during an event like the SEMA Show."

The Teddy Fund supports the memory for the late Anthony Parrilla, who died earlier this year after his long bout with Astrocytoma, a form of cancer that attacks the nervous system. The fund provides support to families who are battling similar diseases.
