UNLV To Hold Fourth Winter Advanced Camp

Dec. 13, 2006

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball program has closed registration for its Winter Advanced Softball Camp IV, while its Winter Coaches Clinic IV remains open. The 2006 edition of the advanced softball camp filled up the quickest of any the camps since head coach Lonni Alameda and her staff came to UNLV in 2004.

The Winter Advanced Softball Camp IV, which takes place Dec. 18-20, is still taking names of "serious" high school age campers who are looking to develop their level of play and wish to participate in the camp. For those wishing to attend, you can have your name placed on a reserve list. The camp will involve three long days of intense instruction by coaches from the collegiate and international level and many former/current players that will promote "solid technique" in both offensive and defensive play.

The Winter Coaches Clinic IV will take place simultaneously with the advanced camp. The clinic, which is scheduled for Dec. 18 and 19 from 6-9pm, is to develop sound and usable information of many aspects of the game. The clinic will have two days of topics focusing on fundamentals and troubleshooting flaws in today's softball player.

Collegiate Coaches that will be attendance to help in the three-day period, besides UNLV's Lonni Alameda, Sara Pickering and Angel Santiago are: CCSN's Kim Anthony, Illinois-Chicago's Tom Gray, Wright State and Team Canada's Jim Peterson, North Carolina State's Lisa Navas, Lianne Ellis and Jay Pyron, Washington's Michelle Thiry, Willamette's Damion Williams, UTEP's Kathy Rodriguez, South Florida's Monica Triner, Northwestern's Amanda Rivera, Oklahoma's Howard Dobson, Palomar JC's Scia Mammasoulo, UC Riverside's Vicky Rios and Pfeiffer's Todd Bradley.

Current national team members and coaches attending the camp and clinic are: Mark Smith (Team Canada); Dana Sorenson (USA Elite Team); Russell Cooper (New Zealand National Team) and Kyla Holtz (Team Canada).

There will instructors from various sports academies, as well: Mark Doran (Diamond Sports Academy), Kevin Welch (Ohio Academy), Scott Centala (Evolutions Sports Academy) and Pete Wilkinson (Evolution Sports Academy)
