Williams, Relay Shines On Day Two

LAS VEGAS - UNLV Winter Invitational Results

UNLV's men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for three first place swims, and both Rebel squads remained in second place in the team standings following the second day of action at the UNLV Winter Invite on Sunday at Buchanen Natatorium. The three-day meet, featuring a total of 11 teams, concludes on Monday. The prelims start at 9:30 am, with the finals beginning at 5:30 pm.

Jonas Andersson easily claimed the 100 breast for UNLV, swimming a time of 56.89, while Eric Culberson finished sixth in 59.20. Other highlights for the Rebel men included Tamas Bosnyak in the 400 IM with a sixth place swim of 4:09.95. John Byers placed fifth in the 100 fly in 50.61, while three Rebels posted top eight finishes in the 200 free, Erik Ringdahl (third in 1:41.02), Johan Claar (fifth in 1:41.70), and Richard Hortness (eighth in 1:43.68). UNLV topped that with four in the top eight in the 100 back. Devin Phillips was third in 50.74, with Tiger Christian swimming 51.49 for fifth, Jeff Ellingsen was sixth in 52.74, while Adrian Law finished eighth in 54.85.

Wendy Williams won UNLVâ�TMs first event on the womenâ�TMs side, winning her second straight diving event of the meet, this time on the 1-meter board with a score of 246.75. UNLVâ�TMs other win came in the 800 free relay, as Marva Harpak, Marina Sandback, Lani Seaman, and Kari Nettenstrom teamed up to swim a time of 7:35.18.

Several Rebel women earned runner-up finishes on Sunday night, beginning with Bailey Kuestermeyer in both the 400 IM in 4:25.87 and in the 100 breast in 1:05.21. Harpak took second in the 200 free in 1:53.52, while Amanda Weinbrecht took runner-up in the 100 back in 58.03. Other top-eight finishes included Sandback in the 100 fly (fifth in 57.28), Lauren Browning in the 200 free (1:56.17), Kim Bonney in the 100 breast (1:05.77)

UC Santa Barbara continues to lead both the menâ�TMs and womenâ�TMs standings. UCSB has 724 points on the menâ�TMs side, ahead of UNLVâ�TMs 627, while TCU is third with 492. The UCSB women meanwhile have scored 734 points, with UNLV in second at 598, TCU third with 492.5, and San Diego State fourth with 328.5 points.
