Feb. 12, 2006

LAS VEGAS - The 59th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team won its fifth straight match, 6-1 over UC Riverside at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.

The Rebels improved to 6-1 while the Highlanders fell to 3-3 overall.

UNLV began the morning by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point.

In singles play the Rebels were without the services of top player Joel Kielbowicz, but still won five of six points with everyone else moving up a spot in the lineup.

Brett Hunter won 6-4, 6-4 over Mark Contreras at the second position, freshman Elliot Wronski improved to 7-0 on the year with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Justin Montgomery at No. 3, David Campbell rallied past Joe Cartledge 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 on court four, Jonathan Hooper swept Bobby Tam at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3, and Wesley Burrows eased by Christian Frick on court six 6-1, 6-1.

"I've said it all weekend but our doubles really played well today, which set the tone for the entire match," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "This is the best doubles lineup we've had in years and they seem to get better with each outing. It was good to see us finish the weekend strong. Now we have to focus on healing up before we leave for a tough road trip."

The Rebels now prepare for a three-match trip in California starting with a meeting with Fresno State on Thursday.
