LAS VEGAS - The Rebels (4-2) were held to one run and three hits Sunday afternoon by the #13/14 Washington Huskies (4-1). The Huskies got a solo home run in the third and held the lead from there on out and won by a 3-1 tally.
UNLV's Kelly Griego (0-2) suffered the defeat as she went 2.1 innings. Griego gave up all three runs on four hits, while striking out none.
In the second, Washington's Ashlyn Watson hit a deep fly ball to left field that Rebel leftfielder Brittany Bolinger was tracking. Bolinger had the timing down, but wasn't able to complete the catch as she hit the wall the ball ricocheted off of her glove and over the fence.
In the third, Marnie Koziol singled to third to open a two-run inning for UW. Dominique Lastrapes doubled down the right field line and moved Koziol to third. Following the first out, Christie Robinson relieved Griego and entered the circle for UNLV. Robinson got Dena Tyson to hit into a fielder's choice as the ball was hit back to her and she threw home to get Koziol out. Sarah Hyatt singled to left to plate Lastrapes. Watson recorded her second RBI of the game with a single to center to score Tyson from second.
In the game UNLV tallied only three hits in the game with two coming in the third and one in the sixth. UW's Danielle Lawrie (3-0) notched her third win of the weekend in the effort. Lawrie struck out 11 Rebels and only walked two in facing 26.
