And Here's To You Miss Robinson

Feb. 14, 2006

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels have carried over their run of winning Mountain West Conference accolades. Due to her two wins and one save this past weekend in the Alexis Resort Kick Off Classic, freshman pitcher Christie Robinson was named the conference's co-pitcher of the week on Tuesday.

Robinson (Clinton, Wash.) was instrumental in five relief roles this past weekend. She registered appearances in five of six contests. She picked up her first win against Southern Utah in the second game of the doubleheader versus the Thunderbirds, while the second win came against Illinois-Chicago. At the time of her appearance UNLV was trailing in both, but rallied to take the lead in the fourth against SUU and used a walkoff grand slam to win against UIC. Against #12 Oklahoma, she faced 13 batters and struck out seven, including five straight and seven of nine. Against Kentucky, she picked up her first save after entering in the sixth with a 3-2 lead, no outs and one runner on base. Versus #13 Washington, she tossed 4.2 innings, while allowing five hits and striking out two with no walks.

This is the first such honor for the freshman, but the 15th overall for Rebel hurlers since 2000 in MWC play. Last season, Jacque Kerrigan won five of 13 pitcher of the week awards for UNLV.
