LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf program has received a signed national letter of intent from Mitchell Fox to enroll at the school and play golf for the Rebels starting with the 2006-07 season, head coach Dwaine Knight announced.
Fox, from Okotoks, Alberta, is a 2005 graduate of Foothills Composite High School. He will enter UNLV as a freshman.
Fox was the 2005 Canadian Junior Amateur Champion, a 2005 Canadian Amateur semifinalist and the 2005 Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) Junior Player of the Year. He was also the 2005 Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Junior Player of the Year and is a member of the 2006 RCGA National Junior Team. He was the top-ranked junior in Canada last year.
"We are very pleased with Mitchell's decision to join our program," Knight said. "He won the Canadian Junior a year ago and was the Junior Player of the Year in Canada, so any time you can get the top player in his country you feel like you have accomplished something special.
"We are excited because he has such a great work ethic and he has a lot of valuable experience having played as a junior in both the United States and Canada. With his experience and his work ethic, his upside for the future is really outstanding."
Fox joins Roberto Galletti, Jr., from Concord, Calif., who signed with the Rebels in November as UNLV's incoming class. Galletti, Jr., was ranked No. 3 in the country among Juniors a year ago.
