LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team concluded a very successful spring season this past weekend with a 4-0 victory in the Alumni game on Saturday, April 22 at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The game was the eighth of the spring for the Rebels, and they posted a 3-2-3 record over those games, despite dealing with several players being out due to a host of injuries (knee, mononucleosis, concussions), and playing the majority of games with no more then one substitue. Of the two losses, one came to the Tabagators Boys team, 6-3, while the other came to conference rival Utah 1-0. The Rebels did post a pair of ties against traditional power BYU, 0-0 and 1-1.
Leading UNLV during the spring season was rising senior forward Tanya Roberts, who posted seven goals. Also scoring for the team was Katie Carney, Armani Rice, Jessica Destito, and Nikki Velez, all with two goals apiece.
"I was very happy with how our spring season finished up, we were able to work on individual techniques and I was pleased with our improvement," said UNLV head coach Katherine Mertz. "The coaching staff was also very happy alumni game, the turnout by the alumni was amazing. We thank you for all of your support in making the weekend a very successful one, and we look forward to your support during the fall season, and in seeing you playing again next spring."
