The UNLV Rebels open their 2006 home schedule this weekend, hosting the UNLV adidas Classic on Saturday and Monday at Peter Johann Memorial Field. This year's adidas Classic features Oakland, UC Irvine, MWC member New Mexico and the host Rebels. UNLV will play UC Irvine on Saturday in a 3:30 pm start, and finish with a 1 pm game on Monday against Oakland.
UNLV (0-1-1) comes into the weekend looking for its first win of 2006, after falling at Washington State and tying Oregon State in the Cougar Classic tournament this past weekend in Pullman, Wash. UNLV will also be looking to tie up its series against UC Irvine, as in the first game between the two schools, the Anteaters claimed a 2-0 win in Irvine on Sept. 25 of last year.
UC Irvine is 0-2 on the year coming into this weekend, having opened with a 3-0 loss at home to Arizona State, followed by a 4-1 loss at Southern California. The Anteaters were outscored 7-1 over the two games, with the lone goal coming from junior forward Kim Horn against USC. Sophomore Erin Henry has seen the majority of time in goal for UCI.
Oakland is 1-1 on the year, having opened with a 2-1 loss to 17th-ranked Arizona, and a 2-1 win over Toledo, both games at home in Michigan. Three players have all scored one goal each thus far: sophomore forward Chelsea Atiyeh, sophomore midfielder Kristi Evans, and sophomore midfielder Jessica Boyle. In goal is sophomore Kim Hebst, who has a 1.5 GAA and has made eight saves while allowing three goals.
