Rebels Fall To USC 4-0

LOS ANGELES - Southern California scored two goals in each half to send UNLV to its fourth-straight loss, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Rebels, who were playing their fourth straight regionally ranked opponent, dropped to 2-5-1 on the season, while the Women of Troy improved to 6-1-1 on the year.

Rosa Anna Tantillo was the key player on offense for USC, scoring the first goals of both the first and second halfs. Ashley Nick assisted on her first goal, in the ninth minute, while Amy Rodriguez pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 14th minute off of Stacey Strong's free kick.

Tantillo's second score also came on a free kick, as her long kick bounced off a defender and UNLV goalkeeper Ciera Nero into the goal for a 3-0 lead in the 54th minute. The final score of the afternoon came from Nick, on a header from Tracy Lansing's corner kick to make the score 4-0 in the 87th minute.

Nero (two saves) and Alicia Lugo (one save) both played one half in goal for UNLV, while Veronica Simonton posted three saves to earn the shutout for USC.

The Rebels will return to action this weekend in the Blue Jay Classic. UNLV takes on North Dakota State on Friday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 pm, before meeting host Creighton on Sunday, Sept. 24 in an 11:30 am contest.
