Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Junior forward Katie Carney scored two goals to lead the UNLV women's soccer team over UC Irvine 3-0 in the second game of the UNLV adidas Classic on Saturday from Peter Johann Memorial Field. With the win, the Rebels avenged a 2-0 loss at UCI from last season, and improve to 1-1-1 on the year, while the Anteaters dropped to 0-3 for the season. In the first game of the day, New Mexico topped Oakland 2-1.

The Rebels were constantly attacking UCI's onside trap in the first half, taking nine shots while forcing Anteater goalkeeper Erin Henry to make five saves in the opening 45 minutes. UNLV finally got themselves on the scoreboard in the 28th minute, when Jessica Destito raced down the left side, before sending a cross just over the face of the goal that was tapped in by Carney from five yards out on the far side of the post.

Carney posted her second goal in the 67th minute, after winning a battle for the ball down in front of the goal. Receiving a pass from the left side, Carney held off one defender, made a move past the second and blasted the ball to the top left corner for a 2-0 UNLV lead.

The final goal of the afternoon came from Haley Partridge, with assists from Tanya Roberts and Jessica Destito, who began the scoring play with a pass into the box to Roberts. Roberts then sent a pass towards Partridge, and it was redirected to the top left corner for the score in the 77th minute.

Freshman Alicia Lugo earned the shutout in goal for UNLV, posting three saves, while Henry made six saves for the game. UNLV held a 14-6 edge on shots for the game, and 5-1 on corner kicks.

In the first game, New Mexico's Kristine Sweat scored once in each half to lift the Lobos to the 2-1 win. Oakland's Kristi Evans scored the lone goal for the Golden Grizzlies.

UNLV will play Oakland on the final day of the adidas Classic on Monday at 2:30 pm, while New Mexico takes on UC Irvine at 11 am, with both games played at Johann Memorial Field.
