Box Score
OMAHA, Neb. - Junior forward Armani Rice scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the opening minutes of the game to give UNLV a 1-0 victory over North Dakota State in the first game of the Blue Jay women's soccer Classic on Friday afternoon. UNLV broke a four-game losing streak with the win to improve to 3-5-1, while the Bison dropped to 3-4-1 for the season.
The score by Rice, her third of the season, came in the 4th minute following a Rebel corner kick. After a scramble for the ball in the box, Rice came away with it and sent off a shot through a NDSU defender into the back of the net for the score.
Though UNLV outshot the Bison 6-3 in the first half, NDSU stepped up its offense in the second, matching UNLV shot-for-shot, as both teams had seven in the second 45 minutes. However, the Rebel defense limited the Bison to just two shots total on goal, both of which were saved by sophomore goalkeeper Ciera Nera, who posted her second shutout of the season. Monica Morgan took the loss in goal for NDSU, finishing with three saves and one goal allowed.
UNLV will finish play in the classic on Sunday, when it meets the host Creighton Blue Jays at 11:30 am (PST).
