Box Score

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Kraig Chiles scored twice in the first 34 minutes of the game to lead the Aztecs to a 4-2 victory over UNLV in a men's collegiate soccer match on Saturday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck. The loss drops UNLV to 0-4-1, while SDSU improved to 3-2 for the year.

Chiles started the scoring in the 18th minute, as he converted a penalty kick after the Rebels were called for a foul inside the penalty box. UNLV would tie the game in the 21st minute, as Nicholas Paterson took a shot that was deflected out by the Aztec goalie, and Lamar Neagle raced in to knock the ball into the goal for his first score of the year.

SDSU took the lead back just 29 seconds later, when Andrew DiCicco beat UNLV goalie Calvin Bailey to the left corner for the score to make it 2-1. The lead increased to 3-1 in the 33rd minute off Chiles' second goal of the afternoon, when he headed in a ball from the throw-in by Dennis Sanchez.

Chiles contributed to the final goal of the day for SDSU, when his corner kick was headed in by Nick Cardenas in the 85th minute. UNLV would add a score in the 90th minute when freshman Marcos Balladares scored his first career goal off an assist from Paterson, sending a shot to the far right side.

Bailey, making his first career start, posted four saves in goal, while Tally Hall was credited with two saves for SDSU. The Aztecs held an 18-7 edge on shots, and 5-1 on corner kicks.

UNLV will return to action this weekend, hosting the UNLV Rebel Classic on Sept. 15 and 17. The Rebels will meet St. Mary's in the first game of the classic on Friday night at 7 pm, while UC Irvine and UMBC play in the first game at 4:30 pm. Both games will be at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
