Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team (6-1) defeated the Florida International Golden Panthers, 2-0, Friday afternoon in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels got both of their runs from the two solo home runs.

Jaci Hull put the Rebels up for good with a first pitch lead-off home run that sailed over the outer green fence of the stadium.

The one-run lead was all that Christie Robinson needed to secure her third win of the season. Robinson improved to 3-0 with a complete-game performance. She allowed four hits and struck out three.

Caitlyn Paus added an insurance run in the sixth with a solo shot down the left field line. Paus' blast flew past the scoreboard and over the outer fence, similar to Hull's.

FIU mounted its only offensive threat in the top of the seventh with help from two hits and one error. The Golden Panthers got a lead-off single from Deomni Murray to left. She moved over to second when Katie Bell's groundball to Paus at second was misplayed. A fielder's choice groundout forced Murray out at third for the first out of the inning. Tabitha Embry loaded the bases with a single through the left side. Robinson then got Monique White to hit into a fielder's choice that forced Bell out at home. The third out was recorded when Kendall Fearn out ran Amanda Cox on a grounder to first.

Kerri Houck (0-3) suffered the loss for FIU with 6.0 innings of work. She allowed two runs on eight hits. She struck out none and walked four.

The Rebels return to action later Friday night at 8:00 pm against Central Florida. For full tournament information please check the softball page at UNLVRebels.com.
