Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team (7-3) dropped both of its contests Saturday at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. The Rebels fell to #6 Northwestern, 10-0, and to #9 UCLA, 8-0. The Northwestern (6-3) contest went six innings, while the UCLA (6-4) game went five.

In game one, the Rebels had two bases loaded situations, but failed to capitalize on either. They loaded the bases in the second and once more in the seventh, but NU's Lauren Delaney (4-0) wound up getting out of both jams. She allowed only two hits and struck out nine in 6.0 innings of work against UNLV.

Northwestern struck for three runs off of Christie Robinson (3-1) in the third to take control of the game. With one out, Katie Logan started the offensive with a single to Robinson and then stole second. Tammy Williams brought Logan home with a single through the right side. Garland Cooper extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run to right center.

Northwestern added to its lead in the sixth inning with six runs on three hits.

Robinson began the game and left when Casey Thompson entered to pitch the fifth inning. Robinson wound up re-entering the circle in the sixth with the bases loaded and no one out. She wound up tossing 5.0 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits. She struck out two and walked four.

Thompson threw 1.0 inning and gave up four runs on two hits with two walks.

In game two, UCLA plated three runs in the second to take hold of the game. The Bruins used four hits and two Rebel errors to get the three runs home against Heather Slettvet (2-1).

UCLA touched Slettvet for two more runs in the third on three hits.

The clinching runs came in the fifth when Whitney Holum took Slettvet's offering over the right center fence. Holum's two RBI pushed the Bruins' lead to 8-0.

Anjelica Selden (3-2) notched the win in 5.0 innings of work. Selden gave up only two hits, while striking out eight.

Slettvet suffered the loss, while tossing only 2.1 innings. She gave up five runs (four earned).

Stephanie Bregante closed out the game with 2.2 innings of relief. Bregante allowed three runs on four hits.
