LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field will take no time off, going right from the indoor championships to the outdoor season, competing in the Trojan Relays this Saturday at Loker Stadium on the campus of USC.
The Rebels wrapped up their indoor season last weekend at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships, with a pair of throwers setting personal best and UNLV records. Junior Monique Humphries broke the UNLV record in the weight throw with a distance of 58'-1.00" to finish fifth in the event. Freshman Aja Evans set a personal best in the shot put, heaving it 48'-11.50" to come in second place in the event. Evans' mark is the second-best distance in the shot put in Rebel history.
Now those two along with their Rebel teammates will focus their attention on the outdoor season.
The relays this Saturday will feature 12 squads including the Rebels and host USC, and the first events will get underway at 11:00 a.m. (PST). The women of Troy placed second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2006, as well as winning the NCAA West Regional and placing third at the Pac-10 Championships.
Following the Trojan Relays, the UNLV women will take the next weekend off before hosting USC, along with Texas and Cal State Dominguez Hills in a quad-dual meet at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field on March 17.
