Leading Off: After playing seven straight games in Mountain West Conference play, the UNLV Rebels step out for two of its final four non-conference games on Wednesday, April 18. The Rebels will take a short drive up to Cedar City, Utah to play a doubleheader against Southern Utah. This will be UNLV's first trip to SUU since the 2002 season.

On Deck: Following the two-game set against Southern Utah, the Rebels return home and jump back into conference play with two games against San Diego State. The two-game series in Las Vegas will conclude the first half of the conference slate for the Aztecs, while UNLV has one game to make-up against New Mexico from this past weekend's rainout.

Non-Conference Opponents: Southern Utah Thunderbirds ~ Overall: 18-22. Mid-Con: 5-4 ~ UNLV leads the all-time series 25-5, with the Rebels winning six straight since the 2002 season, including the last game on March 3, by a 3-0 margin ~ The Thunderbirds went 3-2 last week with a win at Utah Valley State and two at Centenary. SUU plays BYU in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Cedar City.

New Mexico, UNLV Set Make Up Date For Cancelled Game: Due to a rain out, the second game of the UNLV-New Mexico doubleheader that was to have been played last Friday night (April 13) will be made up as part of a doubleheader in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 28. The teams were originally scheduled to play single contests on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, against the Lobos.

The Rebels will play as the "home" team in the single on the 27th and the second game (approximately 2:00 pm) on the 28th. Due to MWC policy, the Lobos will be the "home" team for the noon contest on the 28th to make up for the rainout.

New Mexico and Colorado State Recaps: The UNLV softball team went 2-1 this past weekend in Mountain West Conference road contests. The Rebels were supposed to play a doubleheader against New Mexico last Friday, but rains cut short the first game and cancelled the other. After suffering the loss at UNM, UNLV rallied for a pair of wins at Colorado State on Saturday and Sunday.

At New Mexico, the Rebels had to endure light to heavy rains and six runs cranked out by the Lobo offense. UNM hit two home runs for five of its six runs, while UNLV capitalized on a Lobo error for its only run. Unfortunately, the rain made conditions unplayable and the umpires called the game, with UNM leading 6-1.

At Colorado State, in game one, the Rebels trailed 5-4 in the top of the seventh. They rallied for seven runs on seven hits and were helped by two Ram errors in the inning. UNLV held on for the 11-5 win.

In the second game, the Rebel hurlers surrendered three solo home runs to fall behind 3-1 through five complete. The Rebels knotted the score at 3-3 with two runs on three hits in the sixth. The game remained tied until the top of the ninth when Kelli Fangonilo nailed a two-run double to left field. The Rebels wound up winning 5-3.

New Mexico and Colorado State Hitting: In the three Mountain West Conference games played on the road, the Rebels hit .345 with 30 hits (five doubles and two home runs). The offense recorded 12 RBI and scored 17 runs. On the base paths, the runners were 4-for-4 in the steal department.

The Rebels had six players (with seven or more at-bats) hit above the .364 mark with Kendall Fearn's .545 leading the way. Fearn connected on 6-of-12 hits (all singles).

Kelli Fangonilo scattered six hits in 12 at-bats for a .500 average. Half of those hits went for doubles. She plated three RBI, which included two in the 5-3 extra-inning win over CSU on Sunday. She scored twice, as well. She held a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .500.

Rosa Ordaz and Brittany Meade hit in the .400s with .429 and .400 averages, respectively. Ordaz had three hits, three RBI and one run scored. Meade had four hits and scored twice.

Jaci Hull and Brittany Bolinger hit in the .300s with .375 and .364 averages, respectively. Hull had one double and one home run, while collecting three RBI and scoring five runs. She was walked five times on the weekend, with three of them coming as intentional passes. Bolinger had four hits, one RBI and scored once. She was a perfect 2-for-2 in the steal department.

New Mexico and Colorado State Pitching: In the three Mountain West Conference games played on the road, the Rebel hurlers amassed an ERA of 4.40 en route to a record of 2-1. In 20.2 innings of work they surrendered 14 runs (one unearned) on 21 hits. They struck out 11 and walked eight.

Stephanie Bregante was the pitcher in all three contests, as she went 2-1. In 10.2 innings, she had an ERA of 3.28 and gave up five runs on nine hits. she struck out nine and walked three.
