Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team (31-19 overall, 6-2 MWC) dropped a 5-0, Mountain West Conference contest to the San Diego State Aztecs (27-18, 3-6) at Eller Media Stadium Saturday night. The game was a tight 1-0 affair until the Rebel defense surrendered three errors to allow the Aztecs the opening they needed to widen its margin.

The game was a pitcher's dual until the fourth inning, when Monica Alnes delivered a solo shot to left field from a Heather Slettvet (8-6) offering.

The one-run lead was all that Christina Ross (19-9) needed to pitch a shutout. Ross went the distance for the win. She gave up only three hits and two walks, while striking out 12.

The Aztecs tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh with help from three hits and three Rebel errors. Stephanie Bregante relieved Slettvet after SDSU put two runners on to begin the frame. With the runners in scoring position, the Aztecs got two insurance runs on a sacrifice bunt that was errantly thrown wide of first base. After the third run of the inning scored, Amanda Beasley closed out the SDSU scoring with a two-run single to right.

Slettvet suffered the loss for UNLV with 6.0 innings of work. She allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. She struck out three and walked one.

In one inning of relief, Bregante gave up two runs (both unearned) on one hits. She struck out two of the three outs she recorded.

The Rebels and Aztecs close the two-game series on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 pm.
