Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team (32-19 overall, 7-2 MWC) picked up a 3-1, Sunday afternoon victory in Mountain West Conference action over the San Diego State Aztecs (27-19, 3-7). Although the wind was blowing at near 30 mph speeds to dead center field the entire contest, the game only saw one home run hit out of Eller Media Stadium.

The Rebels broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kendall Fearn led off the frame with an opposite-field shot over the right field fence off of Christina Ross (19-10). Rosa Ordaz followed with a walk and was then pinch-ran for by Stacey Burgos. Burgos took second on a ground out by Bri Bernardi. Brittany Meade tacked on the second run with a single up the middle to plate Burgos.

The Aztecs pulled within one in the fifth thanks to two Rebel errors. Dani Sidoti opened the inning by reaching on a fielding error by Kelli Fangonilo at second base. Lindsey Marquez reached on a bunt-single to put two runners on. The runners moved into scoring position when Bernardi let a pitch to Megan McDonald fall out of her glove for a passed ball. McDonald then took first on a fielder's choice when her grounder was gloved by Meade at third and thrown to Bernardi to tag Sidoti out. Stephanie Quichocho-Rosario quickly came into the game to pinch-run for McDonald and forced an errant throw by Bernardi to second on a steal attempt that sailed into center field. Marquez came in to score the Aztecs only run of the game.

UNLV got the run back in the sixth with help from two hits and a SDSU error. Brittany Bolinger opened the inning with a single, but was later forced out at second on a fielder's choice by Fearn. After the force out, shortstop Monica Alnes' throw to first base sailed wide and allowed Fearn to move up to second. Alyssia De La Torre pinch-ran for Fearn and took third on Ordaz's ground out to third. Bernardi brought De La Torre home with her second double of the day.

Christie Robinson (11-4) picked up the complete game win for the Rebels. Robison tossed a five-hitter and allowed one unearned run to score. She struck out five and walked none.

Ross tossed 6.0 innings and surrendered three runs on seven hits in the loss. She fanned six Rebel batters and walked two.

UNLV returns to action on Tuesday, April 24, with a non-conference doubleheader in Tempe, Ariz., against the #7/9 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils. Game one is slated for a 3:00 pm, first pitch.
