Rebels' Home Schedule Comes To A Close

Leading Off: The UNLV Rebels jump back into Mountain West Conference play this weekend with it final five home contests. UNLV will square off with Colorado State on Friday in doubleheader action that begins at 5:00 pm. The Rebels and New Mexico will play a single game on Saturday at 6:00 pm and then a pair on Sunday (12:00 pm). The first game of Sunday's doubleheader will be a make-up date from the rainout of game two on April 13. The Lobos will play as the home team in game one and the Rebels will be listed as the home squad in game two.

On Deck: The UNLV Rebels hit the road for the remainder of the season with the first of their final two road trips coming on April 5 and 6 in San Diego, Calif. The Rebels and San Diego State Aztecs will square off for a two-game set next Saturday and Sunday. Game one is scheduled for 6:00 pm on Saturday, while the second is set for 1:00 pm on Sunday.

Mountain West Conference Opponents:

Colorado State Rams: Overall: 24-23, MWC: 3-5 ~ CSU leads the all-time series 26-25. The Rebels have won the last three meetings, which includes a sweep of the two-game set earlier in Fort Collins ~ The Rams come to Las Vegas after going 1-3 last weekend in MWC play. The Rams won its final contest by a 20-5 margin in Salt Lake City vs. Utah.

New Mexico Lobos: Overall: 15-17, MWC: 4-3 ~ UNLV leads the all-time series 28-22. UNM won the last meeting in Albuquerque, N.M., 6-1, in a rain-shortened contest ~ The Lobos come to Las Vegas after splitting their DH with New Mexico State on Wednesday. UNM went 2-2 last weekend in MWC play.

Arizona State Recaps: The UNLV Rebels dropped its doubleheader in Tempe, Ariz., at Arizona State on Tuesday. The #7/9 Sun Devils showed why they are nationally ranked in both major collegiate softball polls with its sweep of UNLV.

In game one, the Rebels allowed ASU to take game one by a 9-0 margin in only six innings of play. The Sun Devils scored its six runs through the first three frames before ending the game with a three-run home run in the sixth. The game was called in the sixth, due to ASU being up by eight or more runs after five innings.

UNLV turned things around in game two. The Rebel offense stepped up and played similar to that of the Sun Devils in game one. UNLV staked itself to an 8-0 lead through 4.5 innings only to watch ASU fight back. Trailing 9-8 heading into the bottom of the sixth, ASU got a two-run, go-ahead double to take a 10-9 lead.

Arizona State Hitting: In the doubleheader at Arizona State Wednesday night, UNLV's offense hit at a .235 clip. The batters cranked out 12 hits, five of which went for extra bases (two doubles and three home runs). The team knocked in seven RBI and scored nine runs.

Bri Bernardi and Brittany Bolinger led all sluggers with their identical .600 batting averages. both went 3-for-5 at the plate. Bernardi cranked out two home runs, while plating four RBI and scoring twice. Her slugging percentage was 1.800. Bolinger smashed a double and scored twice, as well.

Highly Offensive Matter: Nearly through 12 weeks, the Rebels are hitting at a .286 clip. The offense has scattered 393 hits, with 35 of them leaving the ballpark. The team has tallied 67 doubles and 11 triples.

The Rebels have two players hitting above the .300 mark. Jaci Hull leads the Rebels with a .380 batting average from her lead-off position. Kelli Fangonilo, who hits second behind Hull, comes in at .331.

In the home run department, the team is carrying over the long ball skills that have been displayed over the past two seasons. In 2005, the Rebels smashed a school-record 50 home runs. Last season, the team came close to that mark with 44. Thus far, through 53 games the team has smashed 35 with Kendall Fearn leading the team with nine. Hull follows closely behind with eight.

The 11 triples, thus far in 2007, have already surpassed the triple tally in 2006. The `06 squad only collected three three-baggers (all tallied by Brittany Bolinger), while this season's team has nearly hit double-digits. Bolinger leads the team with three, while Hull, Rosa Ordaz and Jenn Newman are tied for second with two apiece.
