* This Weekend: The new-look Rebels will head east for the second consecutive weekend, taking on Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Atlantic in two non-conference matches. UNLV is coming off a a 1-1 draw in the 2007 season opener to Pittsburgh, before falling to tournament host Xavier 4-0 last Sunday. Lamar Neagle scored the lone goal of the weekend, being fed from sophomore David Bryan for the tally.

* Scouting the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles: This is the Eagles' first season in Division-I play, and already they have their first win, knocking off Coastal Carolina 3-2 in their program's opening match Aug. 31. FGCU is 1-1 on the young season, after falling to Furman 3-0 last Sunday. Anthony Forde, Collin Gill and Jonathan Koshko have each scored once this season, while Trent Anderson has dished out a team-best two assists. Adam Glick has started and played every minute in net this season, making nine saves. Of the Eagles' 20 players, 19 have no prior collegiate experience. Sophomore Corey Sheriff is the lone FGCU player to have played in college last season, transferring from NOVA Southeastern JC.

* Scouting the Florida Atlantic Owls: The Owls have had a tough go of it so far this season, falling 1-0 to Missouri-Kansas City, then losing to Bowling Green 2-1. Jesse Kehoe has scored the only goal of the season for FAU. The Owls finished 7-9-1 last season, and return 11 players from last season's team. One of 11 returning players is sophomore goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre. The Margate, FL native broke the single season FAU shutout record with six, and was the only Owl to start all 17 games last year. Other key returners include leading goal-scorer Shire Standnes (6G), junior midfielder Javier Carillo (3 GWG), senior defender Franz Chevannes, and senior captain Diego Monsalve.

* UNLV Ties Pitt; Falls To Xavier in 2007 Opening Weekend: UNLV traveled to Cincinnati,Ohio over the Labor Day weekend, earning a 1-1 tie Friday night against Pitt, before falling to host Xavier 4-0 Sunday afternoon. The Rebels came back against the Panthers, getting a late equalizer from junior Lamar Neagle, assisted by David Bryan. Calvin Bailey faced 11 shots in net for the Rebels, earning the tie. Sunday afternoon did not go as well for UNLV, as Xavier scored three first-half goals in cruising to a 4-0 victory. Xavier held a 17-10 edge on shots. A total of 29 fouls were called in the game, 16 on UNLV and 13 on XU. Bailey finished with six saves and four goals allowed while Adam Sokolowski made four saves to earn the shutout for the home team.
