LAS VEGAS -
UNLV men's soccer weekly notes
The UNLV men's soccer team is traveling to Colorado this weekend to start off conference play. The Rebels had a bye week last week and are looking forward to getting back into action at Air Force Friday night at 6 pm and then on to Denver for a Sunday contest at 1 pm.
UNLV (5-2-1) traveled to the San Francisco Nike Classic two weeks ago and split the games. The Rebels played host San Francisco in their opening match, which resulted in a 1-1 tie in double overtime. The Rebels then took on St. Mary's on Sunday, in which they took a 2-1 victory over the Gaels.
Senior Lamar Neagle had an outstanding performance for the Rebels as they played in the San Francisco Nike Classic, scoring all three of the Rebels goals that weekend, including back-to-back goals 29 seconds apart to rally UNLV past St. Mary's. That performance earned him co-MPSF Player of the Week honors.
Air Force is coming off a tough loss to No. 21 UC Davis which ending its non-conference schedule. Junior Steven Noller was recently named as co-MPSF Player of the Week and leads the Falcons' team with three goals this season. The Rebels and Falcons split the series last season, each winning a game.
Denver has lost back to back heartbreakers against nationally ranked teams. The Pioneers took a tough 1-0 loss to No. 7 Saint Louis followed by a 2-0 loss to No. 5 Creighton. Junior Collin Audley, seniors Colin Jones and Leon Abravanel are all tied with two goals each on the season. The Pioneers won both meetings with the Rebels last season.
