Second Half Rally Sinks Rebels

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - UNLV lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, as Utah scored three second-half goals to claim a 3-1 win over the Rebels in a Mountain West Conference women's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon. UNLV drops to 9-5-1, 1-2 in league action, while the Utes improved to 6-7-2, 2-1 in the MWC.

UNLV scored the game's first goal, as with 15 seconds left in the first half Ashleigh Shoughro received a pass from Haley Partridge, and then blasted a shot from 18 yards out to the back of the net for a 1-0 UNLV lead in the 45th minute.

Utah tied the score in the 47th minute when Lauren Porter headed in a Katy Reineke corner kick to make it a 1-1 game. The Utes then scored what would be the game-winner in the 60th minute on Lauren Hair's first goal of the season. Kelly Isleib assisted on the score. Reineke the scored an insurance goal for the home team, as she scored on a long shot to the top left corner in the 81st minute. Amanda Sanchez and Chelsea Forbes both assisted on the goal.

The Utes held a 27-4 edge on shots, including 17-1 in the second half. UNLV goalkeeper Alicia Lugo finished the game with 11 saves and three goals allowed. Emalee Rogers played the first half for the Utes, and allowed one goal, while Hannah Turpen played the final 45 minutes.

UNLV will now return home for its first two conference games of the year at home. The Rebels will host Wyoming on Friday, Oct. 17 at 5 pm, and then follow with a Sunday, Oct. 17 1 pm contest against Air Force.
