Rebels Drop Conference Opener At Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force scored the lone goal of the game in the second half to hand the UNLV men's soccer team a 1-0 loss in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season opener for both teams on Friday night. UNLV dropped to 5-3-1 overall with the setback, while the Falcons improved to 3-6 on the year.

It was a defensive battle all night long, as the two teams combined for a total of three shots on goal. The game-winner came in the 57th minute when Steven Noller dribbled through the UNLV defense and scored on a shot to the far right post from 20 yards out. UNLV's best chance came in the final minute, when Lamar Neagle had a direct kick from just outside the box that went just high.

Hawk Mummey made one save in goal for UNLV, while Air Force goalkeeper Jim Gullo also finished the night with one save. Air Force held a slight 11-10 edge on shots, and 6-4 edge on corner kicks.

UNLV will return to action on Sunday afternoon with its second straight road game, as the Rebels will face Denver at 1 pm.
