Rebels To Play Two In California

Nov. 5, 2008

LAS VEGAS -

UNLV men's soccer weekly notes

After a loss to New Mexico to start the second half of league play, the UNLV men's soccer team is looking to gain back some ground as it takes on a pair of California schools on the road. UNLV is 2-4-1 on the road this season, but hopes it can come out the weekend with two victories. UNLV will take on the San Jose State Spartans Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm and then Sunday the Rebels will play against the Hornets of Sacramento State at 1 pm.

The Rebels are currently led by senior Lamar Neagle who has nine goals this season. He was able to scored both of UNLV's goals against New Mexico and is leading the conference in several categories. First year goalkeeper for the Rebels senior Hawk Mummey is having an outstanding season on defense with 59 saves.

UNLV is looking to come out on top against the Spartans like it did earlier this season. The Rebels were able to beat San Jose State at home 2-1 and hope they can do the same on the Spartans field. The Spartans are coming off a huge game as they tied Mountain Pacific Sports Federation leader Denver 3-3. SJSU played very well against the Pioneers and then against the Falcons of Air Force with a 1-0 win. Senior Richard Mann made a total of 11 saves against Denver, which was a career and MPSF season high for the goalkeeper.

Sacramento State was able to beat Air Force 3-0 last weekend but fell to Denver 3-1. The Hornets have shown to be a tough competitor in the MPSF and look to test UNLV. Although UNLV was able to win the first meeting this season the Hornets have a 11-4 series advantage over the Rebels. Senior Blake Nunes leads Sacramento State with six goals this season and a total of 15 points.
