Rebels To Close Out Fall In Hawaii

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team, ranked 18th in the country in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, will close out its fall season at the 8th Annual Turtle Bay Intercollegiate, which will begin Monday, Nov. 10, at the Turtle Bay Resort Golf Course in Kahuku, Hawaii.

The 54-hole tournament, which will consist of 18 holes played each day through Wednesday, Nov. 12, will have 19-teams competing.

The field consists of Baylor, Cal Poly, College of Charleston, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, Ohio State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Point Loma Nazarene, Saint Mary's, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Texas, Texas-Arlington, UC Irvine and UNLV.

The tournament will be played on two different courses - rounds one and three on the George Fazio Course (par 72, 6,535 yards), while round two will be on the Palmer Course (par 72, 7,218 yards).

Last year's Turtle Bay Intercollegiate team champion was Tennessee at 64-under 800, while co-medalist honors went to Tennessee's Charles Ford and UC Irvine's Sean Shahi, who were both 16-under 200. UNLV tied for fourth at last year's event with a score of 35-under. Current Rebel senior Seung-Su Han turned in the team's best finish tying for 13th at 11-under.

Scheduled to compete for UNLV in Hawaii will be juniors Brett Kanda and Eddie Olson, sophomores Ji Moon and Jeremiah Wooding and freshmen Derek Ernst and Colby Smith. Five players will compete for the team score, while one will compete as an individual (which one will be decided prior to the tournament's start).

No live scoring is available for this tournament. Results will be posted daily at UNLVRebels.com. UNLV's spring season will begin on Feb. 2 at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz. UNLV has recorded finishes of second, first and fifth this fall.
