Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (2-1) jumped back in the right side of the win column with their 7-4 victory over the 11th-ranked Washington Huskies (2-1) Friday in the Speedco Spring Kick-Off Classic at Eller Media Stadium. Stephanie Bregante held the Huskies' offense at bay, while Jaci Hull battered and bruised Washington's pitching with two home runs and five RBI.

Washington nearly broke open the scoreless affair in the second inning, as the Huskies loaded up the bases with two singles and a walk. Bregante (2-1) managed to work out of the threat by getting Amanda Fleischman looking for her second strikeout of the inning.

UNLV took advantage of its second-inning opportunities by scoring six runs on only one hit off of UW's Aleah Macon. Stephanie Bean opened up the frame with a walk and moved to third following a wild pitch and Caitlyn Paus' sacrifice bunt. Rosa Ordaz dribbled a grounder between the legs of Dani Stuart at third to bring home Bean for a 1-0 advantage. Sandy Nakamura stepped up and hit a ball to Morgan Stuart at shortstop, but the fielder's choice throw to second was errant and gave UNLV runners at first and second. Ashli Holland pushed both runners into scoring position with a ground out to second. Brittany Bolinger loaded up the bases with a walk. Alyssia De La Torre followed Bolinger's lead and walked in the second run of the inning.

For the second night in a row, Hull stepped up with the bases loaded and delivered her second grand slam of the season to give the Rebels a 6-0 edge.

The Huskies managed to score their four runs between the third and fourth innings. Marnie Koziol led off the third with a single and made her way around the bases with help from a stolen base, a single and a wild pitch. Washington got back-to-back, fourth-inning singles from Koziol and Bailey Stenson to pull within two at 6-4.

Hull wasn't done with her offensive play as she delivered a solo home run in the fifth to deep center to push the lead to three at 7-4.

Bregante went the distance for the win, as she surrendered all four runs on 10 hits. She struck out two, while walking three.

Macon registered the loss in her first outing of the season. She allowed seven runs, but only one was earned. She struck out four and walked six.

UNLV returns to action on Sunday with a doubleheader. The Rebels will play the #3 Arizona State Sun Devils at 1:00 pm and follow it up with Washington at 3:00 pm.

Note: Hull has hit four home runs in her last two games. She has delivered two grand slams, one two-run shot and a solo blast. She is hitting .625 (5-for-8) with 11 RBI and six runs. Her slugging percentage is 2.125, while holding a .750 on-base percentage. All four homers easily cleared the outer fence of Eller Media Stadium.
