49ers 86 Rebels Sunday

Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (13-8-1) dropped its final contest in the Eller Media Stadium Classic by a 10-0 margin to the Long Beach State 49ers (12-7) on a cold and windy, Sunday afternoon. The 49ers maintained a small lead throughout the game at 3-0, until they erupted for seven runs in the final inning.

After two scoreless innings of play the 49ers capitalized with two runs in the top of the second. Briana Goad and Franciska Morlet began the frame with back-to-back singles off of Traci Odegard. Jessica Beaver attempted a sacrifice bunt to Odegard and reached safely when the throw was wide of first base. Goad came around to score on the play and Morlet moved up to third. Jonae Perez loaded the bases with a walk. Jennifer Griffin brought Morlet home on a sacrifice fly to right field.

In the third, Danielle Linke led off with a single through the right side and took third on a single by Ashley Levine. Odegard recorded a strike out for the first out and then was relieved by Stephanie Bregante, who immediately struck out her first batter. Beaver stepped up and delivered a single to left to score Linke.

LBSU opened the flood gates in the seventh with seven runs on six hits and help from three UNLV errors.

Brooke Turner (8-2) was the difference maker in the game, as she shut out the Rebel offense and held it to only three hits. Turner struck out five and walked only one.

Odegard (5-3) suffered the loss for the Rebels, as she lasted only 3.1 innings. She gave up three runs, but only one was earned. The 49ers collected six of its eight hits off of her.

Bregante tossed 3.0 innings of relief and allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits.

Ashley Arnett closed out the seventh by collecting the final two outs. She surrendered two hits and struck out one.

The Rebels return to action with a single game at UCLA on Wednesday, March 5, at 1:00 pm.
