Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The Rebels dropped its final game of their UNLV Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium to the #20 Ohio State Buckeyes by a 5-1 margin. UNLV falls to 15-12-1 on the year, while the Buckeyes improve to 16-4. OSU took hold of the game with three runs through the first four innings.
OSU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first with help from one hit and one Rebel error. Brittany Vanderink led off the game with a grounder to Jaci Hull that was mishandled. Vanderink moved over to third following a groundout and a fly out. Karisa Medrano brought Vanderink home with a single to center.
The Buckeyes got a solo home run from Sam Marder in the second to take a 2-0 lead.
Brittany Goodchild blooped a single down the line in left to score Dee Dee Hillman from second to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Rebels scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth when they an RBI-single from Brittany Bolinger. Caitlyn Paus led off the inning with a single to left. Paus took second on a right-side ground out by Ashli Holland and then scored when Bolinger singled past second base.
The Buckeyes added two more runs in the sixth on Goodchild's second hit down the left-field line. The hit went for a double and brought home Liz Caputo and Hillman scored on the base knock.
Stephanie Bregante took the loss for UNLV and fell to 8-7 on the year. Bregante allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings.
Kim Reeder improved to 8-3 with the complete-game win. Reeder gave up one run on six hits, while striking out two.
The Rebels return to action next weekend in the UNLV Round Robin. Utah Valley, BYU and Nebraska come to town for the three-day event. The Rebels will open up play with a doubleheader vs. Utah Valley on March 14 (3:00 pm).
