Week Nine Release in PDF Format
Leading Off: After taking a 10-day layoff from action the UNLV Rebels return to the diamond for four games this week. The Rebels will host a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2 (5:00 pm) at Eller Media Stadium against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds before opening up Mountain West Conference action on the road at San Diego State over the weekend. UNLV will make their fourth and final scheduled trip to California with games at the SDSU Softball Stadium on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6. Both contests are scheduled for 1:00 pm first pitches.
Get Your Posters: Following the conclusion of game two of the UNLV-Southern Utah doubleheader, the Rebels will be available to sign their 2008 schedule posters for fans.
On Deck: Following the pair of games at San Diego State the Rebels will kick off their home portion of Mountain West Conference action in Las Vegas. UNLV will welcome the BYU Cougars to town for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 10 (3:00 pm) and then play a pair of games against the Utah Utes on Friday, April 11 (6:00 pm) and Saturday, April 12 (1:00 pm).
A Brand New Season: The Rebels went into their scheduled off-week sitting at .500 through 39 games played and holding a 19-19-1 record. UNLV has played 14 ranked opponents, while four others have been ranked in one of the top-25 polls at least one time this season.
The team has 27 scheduled games remaining this season with 12 in Las Vegas and 15 on the road. Ten of those home contests will come against Mountain West Conference opponents, while the other two will be the pair against Southern Utah on Wednesday.
Seven of the remaining games are set against non-conference foes with Southern Utah, Arizona State, Northern Colorado and Nevada, Reno. UNLV will play doubleheaders at ASU (April 14) and at UNR (April 30), while taking in a single at UNC (April 17).
MWC Opening Weekends: The Rebels have played in eight league opening weekends since the Mountain West Conference was formed in 1999. Since 2000, the Rebels hold a record of 14-16.
This upcoming weekend's games at San Diego State will only be the second time that these two squads will kick off league action. In 2001, UNLV welcomed SDSU to Las Vegas for the conference opening weekend with both teams taking a game.
UNLV's best weekend in MWC history was in 2007, when the Rebels went 4-0. Last year, the Rebels welcomed BYU and Utah to Eller Media Stadium and acted rudely to their guests.
