LAS VEGAS -
UNLV weekly notes - UNLV Nike Classic
Coming off an undefeated trip to California to begin the season, the UNLV women's soccer team (1-0-1) is ready to host its first home games of the year as the Rebels will take on Nevada, Reno and Pacific this weekend in the UNLV Nike Classic. UNLV will meet the Wolf Pack on Friday at 1 pm, and then will take on Pacific on Saturday, also at 1 pm, with both games being held at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels looked impressive to open the year against a pair of teams that reached double-figures in wins last season. UNLV opened with a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Loyola Marymount and followed with a 2-0 win at UC Irvine. That performance moved the Rebels into 11th in the Soccer Buzz West regional rankings.
UNLV will be looking for revenge when it takes on Nevada, Reno, as the Wolf Pack stunned the Rebels with a 3-0 win in Reno, a huge setback in the team's NCAA hopes and UNR's first-ever win in the series. UNLV is 3-0 all-time in Las Vegas against the Wolf Pack, and in fact have never given up a goal on its homefield, having outscored them 16-0 over the three games. UNR will also be looking for its first goal in 2008, after having lost its season opener to UC Santa Barbara 4-0.
Pacific meanwhile comes in at 1-1 after a 2-0 win at Sacramento State, followed by a 5-0 defeat at the hands of 10th-ranked Stanford. In the only other meeting between the schools, UNLV and Pacific played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie last season.
