Rebels Bear Down On Baylor

EUGENE, Ore. - The UNLV Rebels (3-5) notched their first sweep of the 2008 campaign Saturday in the Oregon Classic with a 3-0 win over the Baylor Bears (8-1). The victory snapped a two-match losing streak the Rebels rode into the contest and halted Baylor's best start in school history at eight consecutive victories. The Rebels took the match with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 29-27.

Both teams did not have their "A" game when it came to attacking. UNLV out-hit Baylor .165-to-.162. The Bears tallied one more kill in the match, but threw down three more errors.

Jessica Walters topped all hitters in the match with her 16 kills.

Melody Nua led UNLV in assists with 31 of the team's 34 helpers.

Camille Cunningham was the top defensive player for the Rebels with her 20 digs.

Baylor's Ashlie Christenson and Anna Breyfogle were main attackers, as they chipped in 14 and 10 kills, respectively.

Taylor Barnes tossed up a match-high 32 assists in a losing effort, while Katie Sanders had 14 digs.

The Rebels are back in action at 4:30 pm, as they will play their final match of the Classic versus Eastern Washington.
