Box Score

LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore forward Daniel Cruz scored the first golden goal of his career in the second overtime as the Rebels rallied for a 2-1 win over Oral Roberts in the final game of the UNLV Nike Invitational on Sunday afternoon in men's collegiate soccer action from Peter Johann Memorial Field.

The Rebels (4-2) trailed almost the entire afternoon after an early score by ORU (1-4), but would tie the game with less then five minutes remaining in the second half. Lamar Neagle scored his second goal of the year when Andrew Friel headed the ball into the box, and Neagle leaped up and headed the ball again past ORU goalkeeper Irving Peralta to the left post in the 86th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Rebels came up with the winning score in the second extra 10 minutes. Ben Haugland pushed the ball down the right side on an attack, and sent a cross into the middle of the box. Cruz came in unmarked and slammed home the shot to the right post in the 107th minute. UNLV has now won three straight overtime matches on its home field, all having gone to double-overtime.

The first goal of the day came in the 14th minute as Jordan Tatum headed in a cross from Taylor Cluff to the right post, putting the Golden Eagles up 1-0. The Rebels first looked to tie the game in the 65th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick, but Peralta would make a save on Nicholas Paterson's PK attempt.

UNLV finished the day with a 25-9 edge on shots, and 8-4 on shots on goal. Hawk Mummey made three saves in goal for UNLV, while Peralta was credited with four saves in his 90 minutes of action. Andrew Techanchuk played the two overtime periods for ORU, and made two saves while allowing one goal.

UNLV will return to action on this weekend, when it travels to San Francisco, Calif., to play in the BMW/Nike Classic at the University of San Francisco. The Rebels will meet the host USF squad on Friday at 7:30 pm, before finishing against St. Mary's on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
