Rebels Take On The West Coast

UNLV weekly men's soccer notes

The UNLV men's soccer team (4-2) heads to San Francisco this weekend as it will take on the host San Francisco Dons on Friday night at 7:30 pm, and face the Saint Mary's Gaels in a Sunday afternoon match at 2:30 pm in the BMW/Nike Classic.

The Rebels played two tough matches over this past weekend, splitting the results. The first opponent faced was Gonzaga, and the Rebels had a slow start. UNLV tried rallying back late, but it just was not enough, as they suffered a 2 - 1 loss to the Bulldogs. Oral Roberts gave UNLV a tough test going into double overtime, before UNLV came out on top with a 2 - 1 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Senior Lamar Neagle scored his first two goals of the season, one in each game. His first goal came in the late in the second half of the Rebels lose to Gonzaga. His second goal was against Oral Roberts as he headed the ball into the box. Sophomore Daniel Cruz scored his first career golden goal in Sunday's second overtime against the Golden Eagles.

San Francisco is the host for this weekend's BMW/Classic and looking for its first victory of the season. The Dons are coming off a tough home opener to Stanford, in which the decision did not go their way. In the Dons' four games this season, they have only given up one goal per game. Junior forward Connor Chinn leads the team with three shot attempts.

Saint Mary's is coming into this weekend's action after a tough 1-0 loss to Sacramento State. The Gaels took 12 shots in the game but just could not get anything past Sacramento State. The Gaels saw an terrific performance from junior goalkeeper Jason Badger who had a season high four saves.
