Men's Soccer

Rebels Look To Extend Win Streak

Sept. 3, 2008

LAS VEGAS -

UNLV weekly notes

The UNLV men's soccer team will return to action this weekend at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Tournament. The Rebels started off the season by going undefeated in the UNLV Rebel Classic last weekend, and have hopes of coming out on top at this weekend's tournament as well. UNLV will first face the home team, Cal State Fullerton on Friday night at 4:30 pm, followed by a game Sunday against Cal State Northridge at 4:30 pm.

Friday's game will also be broadcast live over the internet at www.UNLVRebels.com, thanks to Big West TV.

UNLV's 2-0 start is its best in six years, but this will be the first road test of the season. Last year, the Rebels were 1-7 away from Las Vegas. Sophomore forward Daniel Cruz scored the first three goals to start off UNLV's season, with two goals in the win over Jacksonville and a score against Radford. Senior goalkeeper Hawk Mummey proved that even though this is his first season as goalie he has lots to offer the Rebels defense, earning one shutout.

Cal State Fullerton is coming off a 2-0 loss to Georgetown, but still look prove a challenge for the Rebel. Cal State Northridge meanwhile is coming off a 7-7-6 overall record in the 2007 season. The Matadors opened their season hosting the Cal State Northridge Tournament, and earned a split as they took down Alabama A&M before falling to Georgetown in the second game.
