Box Score
FULLERTON, Calif. - UNLV senior defender John Crawley scored his first career game-winner and the Rebels are off to a 3-0 start for just the third time in the team's 35-year history following Friday afternoon's 1-0 shutout of Cal State Fullerton (1-2) from Titan Stadium on the first day of the Cal State Fullerton Tournament.
For the second time this year the Rebels scored a game-winning in the opening two minutes, as Crawley's goal came just 1:36 into the game. The goal was setup following a UNLV corner kick that was cleared out of the box by the Titans, but Crawley came up from his backline to control the ball, and blasted a shot from 30 yards out into the back of the net for a 1-0 Rebel lead.
The Titans would dominate the shooting for the remaining 88 minutes to add to the scoreboard, as they finished with a 17-6 edge on shots, but a combination of close misses and outstanding goalie play on both sides resulted in the final 1-0 score.
UNLV senior goalkeeper Hawk Mummey posted his second shutout of the season, as he collected nine saves in goal, while Titan goalie Trevor Whiddon finished with one save in the net.
The Rebels will now meet Cal State Northridge on the second day of the Cal State Fullerton Tournament on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
