Box Score

SAN DIEGO - Sophomore forward Jenna Larkin scored the game-winner with just 38 seconds left in the second half to rally UNLV past Seattle 2-1 in women's soccer action on Friday afternoon in the first game of the San Diego State Classic held at the SDSU Sports Deck. The win, the second straight for the Rebels, improved their record to 4-3-4 on the season, while Seattle dropped to 5-7-1.

The afternoon's first score came from Seattle, as in the ninth minute Carlee Norquist took a pass from Kara Kuttler and slotted a shot to the upper right corner for a 1-0 lead. It looked as if that score would hold up for the Redbirds, as neither team could connect on a score the rest of the half. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Seattle until the 75th minute, when UNLV's Katherine Orellana scored her second career goal to tie the game at 1-1. Orellana posted the score off a shot to the lower right corner after assisting passes from Brittney Flores and Shannon Hughes.

Both teams each had several shots in the final 15 minutes in their attempts to break the tie, but it would be the Rebels who would come out with the winning score thanks to Larkin. She received a pass from Amanda Forrester on a breakaway attempt, and would blast a shot to the left corner of the goal for the game-winner, the first of her career.

Alicia Lugo made five saves in goal for UNLV, while Redhawk goalkeeper Madison Goverde was credited with three stops.

Both teams finished with 14 shots on the day, but each half saw big advantage for one team, with Seattle taking 11 shots to UNLV's seven in the opening 45 minutes. while the Rebels held a 7-3 edge on shots in the final half. Seattle held a slight 3-2 edge on corner kicks.

UNLV will close out action in the tournament on Sunday when it faces Oregon State at 11:30 am.
