Cougars Invade Rebels Den

Oct. 3, 2009

Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (3-10 overall, 2-4 Mountain West) dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-21) affair to the BYU Cougars (8-7, 3-1) Saturday afternoon from the Cox Pavilion. The loss snapped UNLV's three-match winning streak over BYU dating back to 2007.

The Cougars out-hit the Rebels by a .214 to .000 margin. BYU hit in the .100s the first two sets before racking up a .294 in the third and final frame. The Cougars upped their kill figures in each successive set going from nine in the first, 12 in the second and 17 in the third. UNLV, on the other hand, tallied negative hitting efficiencies the first two sets before racking up a .200 tally in the third. The Rebels had 25 errors combined in the first two stanzas before dropping down to only six in the third.

"I am very disappointed in our offensive level," noted UNLV head coach Allison Keeley. "We made poor decisions in the first two sets. We hit smarter and more aggressively in the third. We have the ability to get by, but we keep making poor choices at times."

The Rebels were led by 11 kills from Cursty Jackson, as she contributed four digs, three blocks and two assists. Kelsey Keeler amassed the second-most kills with seven.

Amanda Alles had a team-best 21 assists for the match.

Defensively, Kela Lau Hee had 10 digs to lead UNLV in the department. Nile Te'o was second with six digs, while Erin Greenwood and Samantha Richard had five each.

"With Samantha Richard back in the lineup it helped with our right-back defense with her consistency."

Kayla Walker was the lone Cougar to notch double-digits in kills with 14 on .231 hitting. Walker chipped in nine digs and seven blocks (two solo).

Kiana Rogers assisted on a match-high 30 kills and fell one dig shy of notching a double-double with nine tallies. Rogers had four blocks, as well.

The Rebels are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 10 with a 1:00 pm home match against the Seattle Redhawks.
