SAN JOSE, Calif. - For the first time since the 2004 season, the UNLV men's soccer team won a conference road contest as Will Ziegahn scored the lone goal of the game in the Rebels' 1-0 victory at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation co-leader San Jose State on Friday night from Spartan Stadium. UNLV improved to 7-5-1 overall, and 1-3-1 in league play with the win, while SJSU dropped to 9-7-1, 4-1 in the MPSF.
After a scoreless first half, in which both teams took three shots each, the Rebels took six shots in the second 45 minutes. The winning score came off Ziegahn's header from a Roberto Farfan pass in the 75th minute. The goal was the third of the season for Ziegahn, and his first game-winner.
Roland Swanson posted three saves in goal to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Jonathan Lester would finish with four saves for the Spartans. UNLV held a 9-6 edge on shots, and a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.
UNLV returns home for its next contest, a Senior Day game against Sacramento State at 1 pm on Sunday at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
