SAN DIEGO - Oregon State scored once in the first 10 minutes of the game and added two more second-half goals to claim a 3-0 victory over UNLV in women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon in the third game of the San Diego State Classic held at the SDSU Sports Deck. The loss for the Rebels dropped their record to 4-4-4, while the OSU Beavers improved to 8-2-1 on the season.
Melinda Ingalls posted the first goal of the game in the 10th minute when she took the ball close into the goal and shot from three yards out for the unassisted score. That was the only goal of the first half, which had OSU taking eight shots while the Rebels would be credited with four. The second 45 minutes saw an 8-2 shot advantage for the Beavers, and they would score on two of them for a three-goal advantage.
The game's second goal came on a Melissa Peck header from five yards out off a Red Nixon cross in the 51st minute. Ashley Seal closed out the scoring with a blast from 40 yards out that hit the upper right corner of the goal in the 66th minute, making the score 3-0.
Alicia Lugo finished with four saves in goal for UNLV, while Ashley Wood made three saves on Rebel shots to pick up the shutout. OSU held a 16-6 edge on shots, while UNLV owned a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
The Rebels return to action on Thursday with their Mountain West Conference opener, coming against Utah in a 7 pm contest at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
