LAS VEGAS - Former UNLV great Henner Nehles was one of seven singles players named to the Mountain West Conference 10th Anniversary Men's Tennis Team, the league announced Thursday.
The native of Duisburg, Germany, finished his three-year career as one of the most decorated players in Rebel history.
Voted the 2005 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Senior of the Year, Nehles closed one win short of All-America status at the NCAA Singles Championship.
Earning a career-high national ranking of 38th in 2005, he turned in a 29-9 singles mark while his 20-6 doubles record as a senior pushed him as high as 17th in the nation with partner Aviram Salomon.
Also a three-time All-MWC honoree, Nehles set a school record by being named conference player of the week a total of five times.
The MWC 10th Anniversary Men's Tennis Team was selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and online fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been an all-Mountain West selection at least once in their careers.
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 season in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th year.
