LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field closes out its regular season by traveling to the Husky Classic, which is this Saturday in Seattle, Wash., and is hosted by the University of Washington.
The Rebels will take at least 11 student-athletes to Seattle and sprinters to watch include Lekeisha Lawson and Shahnel Woodley, as they will be participating in the 60 and 200 meters. Saturday's events will begin at approximately 7:45 a.m. (PST).
"The Husky Classic allows us to get our athletes to compete at a higher level," said head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams. "There will be some great talent competing this weekend so it gives us the chance to step our game before the conference meet in two weeks."
The Rebels will face its toughest competition of the indoor season as they take on seven ranked teams from around the country such as No. 3 Oregon, No. 6 Florida State and No. 9 Penn State. Mountain West Conference opponents will be No. 18 BYU and Utah.
Other UNLV track and field athletes who should have strong meets include Meia Tezeno, Candise Maxwell and Rachael Long in the 60 meter hurdles, Deja Edwards and Talyah Polee in the long jump and Claire Schreiner in the high jump. Freshmen Christine Lowe, Zadia Bryant and Lindsay Roach will also run.
Rebel throwers Olivia Raya, Amanda Bingson, LaShante Ellison and Danielle Rios will be at the Northern Arizona Classic which will begin at 8:30 AM (PST) with the women's long jump.
The final event of the Husky Classic will be the women's 4x400 meter relay at 5:25 p.m. (PST).
