Final Stats
Cathedral City, Calif. - The UNLV Rebels (5-5) had its losing streak extended to three games with a 9-1, five-inning loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-0) in the Cathedral City Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Rebels jumped out early, but watched as the Huskers used infield hits to take control of the contest.
The Rebels had its only offensive effort in the first inning when Alyssia De La Torre poked a single into left to start the game. De La Torre took second when Molly Hill uncorked a wild pitch during Brittany Bolinger's at bat. Marissa Nichols wound up bringing in the game's first run with a single up the middle.
Unfortunately, the one-run lead did not hold up for long, as Nebraska evened things up in the bottom half. With the bases loaded following a single and back-to-back hit batters, Brittany Pascale hit a slow-rolling fielder's choice to third base.
The Huskers added two more scores in the second when Darcy Rutherford and Meghan Mullin delivered consecutive run-scoring singles to push NU's lead to 3-1.
Kendall Fearn came close to pulling UNLV within one run in the fourth, but her blast to deep center was corralled by Mullin before crashing through the breakaway fence.
Nebraska put the game away in the fourth when they scored six runs on five hits.
Hill earned the win for Nebraska and moved to 3-0 on the year in her 5.0 inning showing. She tossed a two-hitter and allowed only one run. She struck out one and walked one.
