Final Stats

Cathedral City, Calif. - The UNLV Rebels (6-7) dropped an 8-2 decision to the Long Island Blackbirds (5-5) on Sunday morning at Big League Dreams in Cathedral City, Calif. All 10 runs scored were the result of five home runs hit in the game. Unfortunately, UNLV only owned one of the four homers that were hit in the game.

After having two potential runners thrown out at the plate in the first inning, Long Island went to a more tried and true method of scoring runs. The Blackbirds used the long ball to take control of the game in the second. Traci Odegard (3-4) was touched for two homers in the inning, as she allowed a solo shot to Amanda MacIntosh to open the inning and a three-run jack by Bianca Mejia to close out the four-run stanza.

UNLV cut its deficit to four in the top of the sixth when Jaci Hull cranked a two-run bomb to deep center.

LIU got two more two-run home runs throughout the game, as Raylene Asman hit one in the fourth and Mejia hit her second in the sixth.

Blaire Porter picked up the win for LIU with a complete-game effort. Porter allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out nine and walking one.

Odegard was saddled with the loss in 3.1 innings of work. She was touched for six runs on seven hits.

Stephanie Bregante tossed the final 2.2 innings of relief. Bregante gave up two runs on three hits.

UNLV is back in action at 1:00 pm, when they face Cal Poly in the teams' final game of the Cathedral City Classic.
