Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (8-7) picked up a 3-2 win over the Drake Bulldogs (7-4) on Thursday night in the Eller Media Stadium Tournament. The Rebels used two home runs to stake themselves to a 3-0 lead before staving off rally attempts by the Bulldogs.
Jaci Hull put the Rebels up for good with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning off a Jenna DeLong (2-2) offering. Brittany Bolinger scored on Hull's second home run of the season, as she initially reached with a bunt single.
Brittany Meade extended UNLV's lead to 3-0 with a solo shot in the second.
After being held scoreless for three innings, Drake put two scores on the board in the fourth with help from a two-run double by Molly McClelland. The Bulldogs got back-to-back singles off of Jessica O'Connor (5-1) to start the scoring opportunity.
In the sixth, Traci Odegard was summoned from the bullpen after O'Connor walked the inning's first batter, but watched as Drake quickly loaded the bases. Odegard managed to get out of the threat and kept the Bulldogs from tying the game.
O'Connor tossed 5.0 innings for her fifth win of the season. She allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking two.
Odegard picked up the Rebels' first save of the 2009 campaign in 2.0 innings of relief. She was gave up two hits and struck out two.
DeLong suffered the loss in 6.0 innings of work. She surrendered three runs on four hits. She fanned five Rebels, but walked three.
UNLV is back in action on Friday, Feb. 27, as they face Wright State (10:00 am) and Florida Atlantic (12:00 pm).
