LAS VEGAS -
Week Seven Release in PDF Format
Leading Off: The UNLV Rebels will make their third of four scheduled trips to California this weekend, as they participate in the Capital Classic (March 19-22) in Sacramento, Calif. The Rebels will only play on Friday (20th) and Saturday (21st) and face some familiar opposition.
The Classic is hosted by Sacramento State, who UNLV just defeated (7-3) last weekend in the National Invitational Softball Tournament (March 13-15) held in San Jose, Calif. The Rebels and Hornets will face each other on Saturday at 11:00 am.
Besides Sacramento State, the Rebels will battle Cal Poly for the second time in 2009. The two squads squared off in the Cathedral City Classic (Feb. 20-22) on Feb. 22, with UNLV claiming a 5-3 victory. This matchup will take place Saturday at 5:00 pm.
Dartmouth (Friday, 9:00 am) and #10/07 California (Friday, 3:00 pm) round out the four-game slate for UNLV.
On Deck: After opening the season with six straight weekends of play, the Rebels will get a much needed week off, as they are not scheduled to have any games from Thursday, March 26 through Sunday, March 29.
UNLV will get back into the swing of things on April 4 and 5, when they open up Mountain West Conference play at home vs. San Diego State.
Take Notice: The UNLV softball team (21-8) made an appearance in this week's USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll (March 17).
The Rebels, who had not received any votes prior to this week's poll, enter the rankings 28th this week and sit behind Cal Poly and Iowa in the "receiving votes" category.
Let's Go Streaking: With the addition of four victories from last weekend's National Invitational Softball Tournament (March 13-15) in San Jose, Calif., the Rebels have reeled off nine straight wins dating back to March 6.
The current nine-game winning streak sits tied for the second longest such run in the program's history. The 2009 squad is matched by nine-gamers notched by the 1990 and 1994 squads.
The three teams trail the 1995's program-best 15-game winning streak for top billing.
